Carminda’s journey from a small village in central Honduras to her new home in Los Sueños: The Dreams is a testament to her unwavering determination to provide a better life for her children. Leaving her kids in the care of family members, she ventured to Roatán in 1991, driven by a dream of escaping the limited opportunities and poverty of her hometown. After a year of hard work and perseverance, she established herself on the island, securing a decent job cleaning laundry in a hospital that would support her family. Only then did she bring her children to join her in this newfound land of possibilities.
For almost two decades, Carminda and her children experienced the hardships of constantly moving from one rented apartment to another. Their most recent residence in Coxen Hole, Roatán, offered only intermittent access to water and raised concerns about safety within the community. As a single mother, Carminda’s top priority was the security of her children, which was a constant concern in their previous living situations. Moreover, she spent a significant portion of her monthly salary on rental expenses, limiting her ability to save and build a stable future.
Everything changed when Carminda found Los Sueños: The Dreams. This affordable housing community provided her with an incredible opportunity to own a home and land in Roatán. The prospect of stability, safety, and increased financial opportunities filled her heart with hope. Finally, she could provide her children with a solid foundation, a place to call their own, and the chance to pursue their dreams, possibly even fulfilling their aspirations of attending university. Los Sueños: The Dreams became the stepping stone that Carminda and her family needed to embark on a brighter future.
