ALF Voices – Johana Johnson

ALF Voices features a behind the scenes look at our work from the viewpoint of different team members. This blog post was written by our Executive Administrative Assistant, Johana Johnson:

Working at ALF has been an incomparable experience that has awakened interests and likes I didn’t know I had. This makes me want to improve myself in those areas and use them to better help others. With the situation now, I’m blessed to have a job that allows me to work from home during Covid-19.

Changing my work environment from the office to home has been challenging for me- especially when trying to focus on a work task and my 3-year-old decides he wants to play with his cars in the same area where I’m working- but somehow I manage to get the tasks completed and feel proud of myself for doing so.

It’s amazing to see how our day to day routine has changed so abruptly due to the pandemic. Now we are forging a new way through our daily lives, remembering to keep ourselves and our family members safe every time we leave our homes.

Before the pandemic hit and now, I get to be part of a great team that is on a selfless journey to create opportunities for the people on Roatán. Even though along the way we encounter obstacles that delay our process, we keep pushing through. We remain inspired by the joy it brings to applicants as we share good news on moving forward in the process of one day owning a home and by seeing youth from Flowers Bay enjoying a game of basketball in a safe environment like the park at Los Sueños: The Dreams. Those flashbacks give us the energy to overcome many obstacles and to work harder to create opportunities through Community, Education and Conservation.

The more involved I become with each pillar of the foundation the more I fall in love with what ALF is doing. I’m happy to be part of an organization that is focused on wanting the best for my island so we can all live a vibrant life.
