ALF’s Bilingual Literacy Program provides 12 weeks of proven reading and writing curriculum for island youth, meeting three times a week under trained teacher guidance. Weekly progress tracking enables personalized instruction tailored to each child’s needs, filling the gap left by the absence of English education in Roatán’s public schools.
We collaborate with communities across the island who provide the space for classes, creating access to literacy training for more children.
With groups limited in size to 10-12 children, students have a high degree of interaction with facilitators through dynamic and interactive lessons.
Over the past 3 years, we have seen attendance and completion rates of over 90% in this elective program, with nearly 100% of students progressing through literacy levels.
